ABSTRACT:
In terms of evolution of VDI, let us look at some of the challenges that most enterprises face with the desktop deployment. The traditional desktop computing (this is again using the clients but every client has a local operating system and locally installed applications) is probably the hardest asset to manage and the most underutilized asset in companies today. Managing the distributed PC environment has different activities, for example, patching the operating system, patching the application, deploying new applications rapidly, providing support and provisioning PCs to new users, and again providing these PCs as rapidly as possible. However, in the current desktop IT environment, this is extremely time consuming and extremely inefficient. The IT staff needs to be on-site and have the ability to support users which takes time away from working on other projects. The complexity of PC management again increases significantly as the company decentralizes its operation and opens more remote offices and more branch offices and is going global. This increased complexity makes it extremely time consuming and inefficient to manage the entire PC infrastructure. Because it is time consuming and because the processes are inefficient, this implies that the desktop operating costs are high and it is expensive to support and maintain the infrastructure.
